Brownfields suffer from higher operating costs, declining oil production, aging equipment, and a complex subsurface configuration of pressure and saturation. These issues make redevelopment concepts requiring substantial new investment less attractive and risky. Brownfield projects in turn are those where most of these ancillary facilities and part of the operating facility is already existing and the owner wants to add an additional plant or either enhance its operating capacity or increase its product profile. Project completion schedule, production downtime and facilities outage also presents a challenge to both the construction contractor and the asset. This paper will present a case study on one of the major Brownfield project that was recently constructed and commissioned in Kuwait Oil Company (KOC).
